Port of Bok Now Enjoys a New Status as an International Business Gateway of Guinea

Bok, (Guinea), Conakry, 10?Sep?2018:?Port of?Bok(Port de Bok), the largest multiple- purpose port in Guinea and Bok Region in terms of cargo throughput finally was crowned with its new international status by registering in the Global Integrated Shipping Information System (GISIS) of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) with a UN/LOCODE “GNBRP” on 3 September 2018, in accordance with the information from the Directorate of the National Merchant Marine of the Ministry of Transports of Guinea. SMB Winning Consortium is the main builder and operator of Port of Bok.

In his correspondence to the General Director of SMB Winning Consortium, wrote Mr Cellou Diallo: Following your application for registration in the GISIS system of the harbor facilities of the WINNING / WAP / SMB consortium, I have the honor to inform you that with the request submitted by National Merchant Marine accepted by IMO, from now on, your port is registered under the name Port de Bok with a UN/LOCODE “GNBRP”, its two docks with facilities, including river channels and sea anchorages for transhipment, are recognized and registered in GISIS under the following IMO numbers respectively: Katougouma Dock GNBRP 0001 and Dapilon Dock GNBRP 0002.

Port of?Bok, according to some economists, as strategic infrastructure is playing crucial role in the economic revival of Guinea and world bauxite market as every year, Tens of millions of bauxite are exported from here day and night to the global market, mainly, China, the biggest aluminum producer in the world. Vice verse, the port is becoming a gateway of international trade of Guinea and the whole West Africa at large.

International observers believe, Port of Bok could be regarded as a strong resonance to the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation held in Beijing recently and the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) proposed by China, both are promoting connectivity between Africa countries and China. More directly and practically, Port of?Bok will be boosting the economy of Bok Region and Guinea, and therefore benefiting Guinea people.
