Launch of the Guinea-Jiangsu Maritime Institute of Technology “Winning Maritime Course”

Jiangsu Maritime Institute, China’s Winning Alliance and Guinea’s Department of Technical and Vocational Training jointly set up a training programme in Guinea: the Guinea-Jiangsu Maritime Institute of Technology “Winning Maritime Course”.

The course was launched on September 26 (year) at the Bluezone at Conakry, Guinea’s capital.

The launch was attended by Mr Albert Damantang Camara, Minister of Technical Education, Vocational Training, Employment and Labour Affairs of Guinea; Mr Liu Hongming, President of Jiangsu Maritime Institute;
Mr Sun Xiushun, President of Winning International Group; and Wang Baozhong from the Business Office of the Chinese Embassy in Guinea.
The China Winning Alliance was an initiative by Winning International Group from Singapore, and comprises Shandong Weiqiao Venture Group, Shandong Yantai Port Group and Guinea United Mining Supply (UMS) Group. The consortium entered the Guinean market in 2014 to develop bauxite resources in the Boke region; and began operations on July 20, 2015.

The programme to train maritime crew was set up as part of the strategy to accelerate the development of vocational and technical manpower, to localise the workforce and to create more jobs for locals.

The first batch of trainees totalled 30. The plan is to train 120 crew members each year. Graduates will be employed by Winnings and deployed to the Boke bauxite projects.

Certificates of admission were presented to the first batch of 30 students at the end of the ceremony, which included speeches from the guests, the unveiling of the board and the signing of the memorandum.

This collaboration in setting up a training college marks a new model of win-win cooperation between China and Guinea
